Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programming Beyond the Curriculum
Congratulations! Your campus has decided to focus on research-based skills that improve student success! As a result, your campus will implement a social emotional initiative. Choosing the curriculum is one step – but, alone, it won’t be enough to shape a culture in which social emotional skills will grow in students and staff. Successful implementation goes beyond a curriculum purchase. This training will focus on the most important steps bringing social emotional learning to your campusn. Next, we’ll analyze why some efforts succeed and others fizzle by turning our attention to the challenges that commonly crop up with a social emotional learning initiative – and offer solutions to manage them! Space will be held during the webinar to respond directly to participants’ questions.

Training Objectives:

1. Discuss aspects of school culture that need to be addressed in order to successfully use SEL curriculum

2. Explain how the curriculum should be implemented to guarantee fidelity and generalization of SEL principles

3. List ways to share SEL learning with families and caregivers

4. Analyze areas of potential challenge in implementing a campus-wide SEL initiative

5. Determine steps to address the challenges of implementation and sustainability

Rhonda Vincent joined Momentous Institute in December 2013. Her previous experience includes over 25 years of work in education. Along with a Bachelor of Science, Rhonda earned elementary and early childhood teaching certificates from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She received a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University and a Ph.D. in Child Development from Texas Woman’s University.

Daniel received a bachelor’s degree in international relations from American University and a master’s degree in school leadership from Southern Methodist University.
